zoe & morgan | a winter wedding at middleton lodge, north yorkshire

As a Middleton Lodge wedding photographer, I get to photograph this incredible North Yorkshire venue in every season — but winter weddings here always have something extra special about them. Zoe & Morgan’s wedding on 12th December 2025 was full of warmth, personality and handmade details, making it a perfect example of how magical a winter wedding at Middleton Lodge can be.

From meaningful family involvement to cosy winter atmosphere, this was a wedding day that felt relaxed, heartfelt and completely true to them.

getting ready at middleton lodge farmhouse

Zoe spent the morning getting ready in the beautiful Middleton Lodge Farmhouse with her mum and bridesmaids. The farmhouse is one of my favourite spaces for bridal prep — full of soft light and calm corners, perfect for natural, storytelling Middleton Lodge wedding photography.
One of the most touching details of the morning was Zoe’s pyjamas. Her mum had made them using fabric from her own wedding dress — such a lovely, sentimental nod to family and tradition. She also made personalised, monogrammed pyjamas for each of the bridesmaids, which made for some gorgeous, relaxed photos and a really special start to the day.
The whole morning felt calm, joyful and full of quiet excitement — exactly how wedding mornings should feel.

black tie weddings at Middleton lodge

Over in the main house, Morgan was getting ready with his closest people. He wore a black tie suit, which looked perfectly at home against the elegant backdrop of Middleton Lodge.

His best man is someone he’s known since they were six years old, and his two brothers were groomsmen alongside close friends. There’s always something really special about photographing those long-standing friendships and family bonds — moments full of laughter, nerves and genuine emotion that are at the heart of what I love about being a wedding photographer in North Yorkshire.

a winter ceremony in the main house

Zoe & Morgan chose to marry in the main house at Middleton Lodge, and it couldn’t have been more perfect for a December wedding. One of the standout features of this ceremony space is the mistletoe hanging from the chandelier, which added a subtle festive touch to the room.
As they walked back up the aisle as newlyweds, Zoe & Morgan paused beneath the mistletoe for a kiss — a spontaneous, joyful moment that had everyone smiling. It was such a lovely winter detail and one of those moments that makes Middleton Lodge wedding photography so special.

handmade details with heart

This wedding was full of thoughtful, handmade touches created by family members. Zoe’s cousin made their wedding cake, and another cousin, Dan, painted all of the table signs, adding a creative and personal feel to the styling.
These details weren’t just beautiful — they told a story. As a Yorkshire wedding photographer, it’s always a joy to capture weddings where so much love and care has gone into every element of the day.

drinks reception & winter atmosphere

After the ceremony, guests gathered for drinks in the main house, which smelled unmistakably of winter thanks to mulled wine flowing through the rooms. The warmth of the house, combined with the seasonal scent, created such a cosy and inviting atmosphere.
The drinks reception was accompanied by a singer and guitarist, Connor, whose live music added the perfect relaxed vibe as guests mingled and celebrated. Live music works beautifully at Middleton Lodge and always photographs so well, adding energy and emotion to the candid moments.

the iconic middleton lodge staircase

One of the centrepieces of Middleton Lodge is the beautiful sweeping staircase, and it played a big part in Zoe & Morgan’s wedding photography. Whether it’s portraits, candid moments, or dramatic group shots, the staircase is a dream for any Yorkshire wedding photographer.
The winter light, elegant interiors and festive atmosphere all came together perfectly for timeless, romantic images that truly reflect the day.

Yes! I have photographed multiple weddings at Middleton Lodge, including both the Fig House and the Main House. I know the best spots for portraits, how the light moves through the venue at different times of day and how to keep things calm and relaxed while capturing all the important moments.

The cottages at Middleton Lodge are a brilliant option for morning prep — they’re spacious, full of natural light, and have that relaxed, countryside feel. Just keep in mind that most couples move rooms around 1–2 hours before the ceremony. This works perfectly for photography, giving you a fresh, uncluttered space for those final dress moments and portraits.

Photography tip: Build a little buffer into your timeline so the room change isn’t rushed. It’s a great way to get clean prep shots without bags and suitcases in the background!

If you're getting married at the Fig House, the Walled Garden is one of the most beautiful outdoor spaces I’ve ever photographed and it’s stunning in every season. From hidden corners to wide paths and rustic greenhouse textures, it’s full of variety.

If you’re in the Main House, don’t forget the grand staircase and the sweeping drive, perfect for more elegant portraits.

Photography tip: Consider doing your confetti shot just before dinner — it’s a fun way to gather everyone in one place and creates beautiful, golden-toned images.

Golden hour at Middleton Lodge is magical, especially opposite the Fig House, where rolling fields catch the soft, evening light.

Photography tip: Check sunset times for your date and build 15–20 minutes into your timeline post-ceremony or before dinner. You won’t regret it.
