hello

AND WELCOME TO DRAWN BY LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY

I’m Lisa. I’m a West Yorkshire based photographer, living in Brighouse with my husband, 2 children and slightly daft black Labrador. I’ve been photographing families since 2015 and I love helping you capture precious memories and catalogue your family growing.

I want to help you have a lovely relaxed experience, so that you not only love your photographs but that you have a lovely experience taking them too.

My diary often fills up a few months in advance, so I highly recommend booking early.

This page gives you lots of information but if you have any questions or would prefer to chat, please give me call.

It’s always a privilege to be trusted with your family’s memories.

How To

works

Newborn photographer

Newborn photo sessions take between two and three hours and are entirely baby-led: some babies will get straight off into a deep sleep and some babies will wake for feeding and cuddles – whatever happens we will simply adjust to their needs. We’ll take all the time that is needed to settle your baby, taking breaks for feeding and cuddles.

Your gallery can focus on baby only or include parents and siblings, if you wish to do so.

Ahead of your newborn shoot we will take time to discuss your colour preferences, and on the day of your session I will work with you to select props and backdrops from my studio to suit your style and home.

Your newborn session will take place on a weekday morning: I only book one Newborn photoshoot per day to ensure that I can give you all the time and attention needed to create your beautiful images.

When booking choose a digital package. If you’re not sure what you’d like, feel free to book the lowest package but don’t worry, if you love all of the pictures then you will have the opportunity to upgrade at your viewing session.

Your photoshoot is secured by paying a £50 booking fee. This covers your time in the studio but doesn’t;t cover any pictures. You come back around 10 days to 2 weeks later for your own personal viewing session where you choose your favourite pictures and decide on a package.

When to book

Newborn photographer Halifax and West Yorkshire

To get the best newborn pictures, whilst your baby is still tiny & curly, I recommend photographing your baby within the first two weeks of life although newborn photoshoots can be done later, we may find it more tricky to get the curly, sleepy poses.

Booking during your pregnancy allows plenty of time for us to prepare for the session, work on its styling and – most importantly – reserve a space so that your photoshoot can happen during that first 2 weeks window.

Your viewing appointment

ter your newborn photo session, you will come back to the studio to view your beautiful images. I will present these to you on a large screen via a slideshow set to music, so you can relive the tiny details and marvel at how quickly your baby is changing.

I will offer my expertise in a relaxed, no pressure environment to help you choose the perfect package for you. I have lots of samples of my amazing products on the walls in the studio from framed prints, canvas and acrylic products as well as beautiful print boxes.

04.

Collect your new Artwork

Whether you choose something for the wall such as beautiful framed images, canvas or acrylics or you prefer an album or prints, Your products will be ready to collect from the studio between two to three weeks after ordering. I always love to see pictures of your beautiful babies on your wall in your home.

A WORD ON WORKING WITH

Newborns

you’re in safe hands…

I never underestimate how daunting it can be to hand over your precious newborn to a stranger. I take my time and explain everything as we go along. My sessions are “baby led”, which means I take time to get your newborn baby off to sleep and I watch their signals and monitor them at all times to make sure they’re comfortable and warm. I am also specially trained in the art of newborn handling and posing and update this training on a regular basis.

As a member of the Guild of Professional Photographers, I have won awards for my newborn baby photography. I have trained with some of the UK and the world’s leading newborn photographers and regularly update my training on safe handling and posing of newborn babies, as well as creating beautiful and creative pieces of art.

I recommend booking your baby photography session ideally around 12 weeks before your due date, although I take bookings anytime from your 20 week scan onwards. I only book 3 newborn photography sessions each week to allow some diary shuffling for early & late arrivals so it’s best to book early to be guaranteed  a session.

True newborn photography sessions are best done when your baby is between 5-14 days old.
This is when your baby is still sleepy and curly so you get those beautiful tiny details. After this time, babies can become more awake and can develop colic and baby acne and it makes it more difficult to get those sleepy pictures. Some babies arrive early or late and we will always work together once your babies arrives to make sure we get your photographs at the best possible time.

I am always happy to chat to you about photographing your baby at any age. I can advise you on when might be best to get you the most lovely pictures.

When you book your newborn photography session, we just make a provisional booking, a floating slot. You get in touch with me as soon as you can after your baby arrives and then we confirm your newborn photosession into the next availabe slot in my diary, this is within the first 2 weeks or your baby being born.

Of course, these are included in a full newborn photography session but not in a newborn mini session as there just isn’t time within 1 hour. A new baby is a big event for the whole family and I always encourage parents and siblings to have some pictures with the new baby too. Young siblings don’t need to stay for the whole session, you can arrange for someone to bring them along at the start or the end for a few pictures.

I advise plain and neutral colours for your session as these will stand the test of time and not detract from your newborn baby.

Whites, creams, greys and blacks are all good colours. No strong logos. Feel free to bring a couple of options for a different look. Some people bring a bag full if they can’t decide, I’m happy to advise you beforehand or on the day.

All babies are different and some babies sleep for the whole session and some sleep  very little. We find that babies sleep best when they are comfortable and have a nice full tummy. We will always ask you to put baby in a clean nappy and feed them before we start. I will send you a newborn booklet before your session with lots of tips to help you get the most from your session with me. Whatever happens, I’ll do my very best to take some beautiful pictures of you and your baby.

Just give me a call on 07794259408 or email: [email protected] with your due date.

I will then send you an invoice for your newborn session fee of £45. Once this is paid, your provisional slot is secured and I will confirm a definite date once your baby arrives.
