If you’re planning your wedding at Grantley Hall, you already know it’s one of those venues that feels special from the moment you arrive.

The grand entrance, beautiful gardens, elegant interiors and peaceful grounds all create the most incredible setting for wedding photographs. But one of the things I love most about photographing weddings at Grantley Hall is that you don’t need to go far to get so much variety in your gallery.

From relaxed morning moments in the suites to outdoor ceremony photographs, sunny portraits in the gardens, confetti outside the front of the hall and a full dance floor in the evening, the whole day can be captured beautifully in one place.

The front of Grantley Hall is perfect for those classic, elegant wedding photographs.

It gives you that real sense of place and instantly shows off the beauty of the venue. Whether it’s a couple portrait, a confetti moment or a group photograph with your favourite people, the front of the hall creates a timeless backdrop without needing too much fuss.

It’s also a lovely place for those “just married” moments straight after the ceremony, especially when everyone is full of excitement and ready to celebrate.

The gardens at Grantley Hall are one of my favourite places for relaxed couple portraits.

They give you space to breathe, move around and enjoy a few quiet minutes together. The gardens are especially beautiful for sunny portraits, softer romantic images and those photographs where you can just walk, chat, laugh and take it all in.

For couples who feel a little nervous about having their photo taken, the gardens work so well because you don’t have to stand still and pose. You can simply be together, and I’ll gently guide you so it feels easy and natural.

The water feature is another beautiful spot for Grantley Hall wedding photos.

It adds something a little different to your gallery and works really well for elegant couple portraits. It gives the images a calm, romantic feel, especially when the light is soft or the weather is bright and sunny.

This is a lovely place to use if you want photographs that feel polished but not overly posed — just the two of you, in a beautiful setting, enjoying a little moment away from the busyness of the day.

An outdoor ceremony at Grantley Hall really is something special.

There’s something so beautiful about saying your vows surrounded by the gardens, with your favourite people around you and the venue as your backdrop. From a photography point of view, outdoor ceremonies are wonderful because they often bring gorgeous natural light, lots of emotion and a really relaxed atmosphere.

Michelle and Wayne’s outdoor ceremony styled by Fulford Flowers was such a perfect example of this. The sunshine, the florals and the whole feeling of the day came together so beautifully, and it felt like one of those moments you never quite forget.

If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony at Grantley Hall, it’s worth thinking about the light, the time of day and where your guests will be seated, but don’t worry — I’ll always look at the best angles and quietly capture everything as it unfolds.

The evening part of a wedding is where the energy really changes, and it’s always one of my favourite parts to photograph.

Grantley Hall weddings can have such an incredible party atmosphere, from live music and packed dance floors to surprise entertainment and guests fully letting their hair down.

Michelle and Wayne’s evening was unforgettable, with an amazing surprise guest, Olly Murs, and a dance floor full of energy from start to finish. It was one of those evenings where every time I turned around, there was another brilliant moment happening.

how long do couple portraits take at grantley hall?

You don’t need to be away from your guests for ages to get beautiful couple portraits at Grantley Hall.

I’d usually suggest around 20–30 minutes for relaxed portraits, with the option to pop out again later if the light is lovely in the evening. Because there are so many beautiful photo spots close together, we can get a really varied gallery without making the day feel like one long photoshoot.

My approach is always gentle and relaxed. I’ll guide you when needed, but I want the photographs to feel natural and like you.

what happens if it rains?

One of the lovely things about Grantley Hall is that you still have plenty of beautiful photography options if the weather changes.

Of course, the gardens and grounds are stunning, but the interiors are just as elegant. The staircase, suites and indoor spaces all give us beautiful options for portraits, details and natural photographs if we need to stay inside.

I’ll always work with the weather, the light and the flow of your day. And if we get a little break later on, we can always sneak outside for a few extra portraits.

Grantley Hall is located in Ripon, North Yorkshire, HG4 3ET, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It sits between Ripon and Pateley Bridge, making it a beautiful countryside wedding venue while still being accessible for guests travelling from across Yorkshire and beyond.

The venue is around a 15-minute drive from the A1(M), which makes it well placed for couples looking for a luxury North Yorkshire wedding venue.

One of the lovely things about getting married at Grantley Hall is that everything can happen in one beautiful place. The rooms and suites are elegant, calm and full of lovely natural light, which makes them perfect for those relaxed morning photographs while you’re getting ready.

From the final touches of make-up to the dress reveal, champagne moments and quiet time before the ceremony, the setting works beautifully for natural, elegant wedding photography. For a venue like Grantley Hall, I would always recommend considering a second photographer, especially if you’re having a larger wedding, both of you are getting ready at the venue, or you want lots of natural guest moments captured throughout the day.

Grantley Hall has so many beautiful spaces, and there is often a lot happening at once. A second photographer means one of us can be with one side of the wedding party in the morning while the other captures the other side, and later in the day it allows us to capture different angles of the ceremony, more guest reactions, extra candid moments and all the little details you might otherwise miss.

It’s not essential for every wedding, but for a full Grantley Hall celebration, it can make such a difference to the final gallery.
