Sam & Hannah got married at the beautiful Middleton Lodge Estate in North Yorkshire this November and I honestly couldn’t think of a more perfect venue for their cosy, autumnal celebration.

As a North Yorkshire wedding photographer, Middleton Lodge is a dream venue for creating photographs that feel timeless and real.

At one point, the happy couple crept away from the buzz and excitement for a few quiet moments together with just the two of them.

And honestly? The couple portraits say it all.

Inside, the styling was just as stunning. Deep burgundy tablescapes by the wonderful My Pretties brought warmth and elegance to the reception space, tying in beautifully with the season and the couple’s relaxed but luxurious vibe.

The rich autumn tones, flickering candlelight and thoughtful little details made the whole space feel cosy, romantic, and completely them.

And then came one of the biggest (and most beautiful) cakes I’ve ever seen — an absolute showstopper by the talented Where The Ribbon Ends. It was as elegant as it was enormous!

As a wedding photographer, this is one of those venues I never tire of shooting, especially when the couple brings the kind of joy, calm and connection that Sam & Hannah did.

One of my favourite things about shooting at Middleton Lodge is the variety of backdrops.

We used the sweeping drive for wide shots, the walled garden for intimate portraits, and the Georgian doorways and sash windows for elegant frames.

It’s one of those venues where you could shoot in the same spot five different ways and get something completely unique each time.

In autumn, the grounds are full of golden tones and soft, moody light. Spring brings fresh greenery and florals, while summer is all about that open-air garden party feel. Whatever the season, the estate photographs beautifully.

The seasonal tones, combined with the rustic stone and coppery trees, created a colour palette that felt cosy and elegant all at once.

The cottages at Middleton Lodge are a brilliant option for morning prep — they’re spacious, full of natural light, and have that relaxed, countryside feel. Just keep in mind that most couples move rooms around 1–2 hours before the ceremony. This works perfectly for photography, giving you a fresh, uncluttered space for those final dress moments and portraits.

If you're getting married at the Fig House, the Walled Garden is one of the most beautiful outdoor spaces I’ve ever photographed and it’s stunning in every season. From hidden corners to wide paths and rustic greenhouse textures, it’s full of variety.

If you’re in the Main House, don’t forget the grand staircase and the sweeping drive, perfect for more elegant portraits.

Photography tip: Consider doing your confetti shot just before dinner — it’s a fun way to gather everyone in one place and creates beautiful, golden-toned images.

Golden hour at Middleton Lodge is magical, especially opposite the Fig House, where rolling fields catch the soft, evening light.

Photography tip: Check sunset times for your date and build 15–20 minutes into your timeline post-ceremony or before dinner. You won’t regret it.
