Hey there, lovely couples! So, you’re planning your big day, and you want those stunning, Pinterest-worthy wedding photos—but without the stress, right? Well, grab a cuppa and let me walk you through the ultimate wedding day timeline. Picture this: everything runs like clockwork, you feel calm, and your photos? Absolute magic. Let’s dive in!

why does a timeline even matter?
A wedding timeline isn’t just for keeping things organized—it’s the secret sauce to ensuring your day flows effortlessly. It gives everyone (especially me, your trusty photographer) plenty of time to capture all the good stuff: from those giggly morning bubbles to the epic dance moves under the disco ball.
We’ll base this timeline on a classic UK wedding, with a ceremony at 1pm and me beavering away from 2 hours before your ceremony, starting at 11am right up to the first dance at 8pm. Ready? Let’s go!

11:00am – wedding prep fun
This is where the magic begins! I’ll arrive to capture the buzz of prep: the laughter, the hairspray clouds, and the moments when your loved ones get teary over your outfit.

💡 Pro Tip: Have all your key items (outfit, shoes, fragrance, invites, etc.) laid out for me. That way, I can get those dreamy detail shots while you sip your champagne or coffee.
12:00 noon – final touches & getting ready shots
By now, hair and makeup are nearly done, and your outfit is ready to shine. I’ll snap those emotional “getting ready” moments and the big reveal to your crew.
💡 Pro Tip: Keep the room tidy(ish)—trust me, it makes all the difference in photos!

12:30pm – let’s head to the ceremony!
Time for some quick portraits of you looking utterly fabulous before we all head to the ceremony. If you're not getting ready at your venue, then I'll usually leave before you, in time to be at the venue 30 minutes before the ceremony to capture your gusts and you arriving.
💡 Pro Tip: Factor in travel time and pad it slightly. Arriving fashionably late might seem romantic, but it can eat into photo time!

1:00pm – ceremony time
This is it! I'll be respectful during the ceremony, avoiding moving around too much to distract you, but I'll be that friendly face at the end of the aisle when you're feeling at your most nervous. I'll also make sure that I'm in all the right places to catch all of the emotion of your vows. You can smile, tears and big laughs all in the same 30 seconds during a ceremony and I'm here for it all.

1:30pm – confetti chaos & big group shot
You’re officially married—woohoo! Time for the confetti shot! Gather your guests, grab a handful of biodegradable confetti, and let’s make some colourful magic.
💡 Pro Tip: I cannot say this often enough, and louder for the people at the back! The best shots are with you with your head up and eyes open, the only way to achieve this is to make sure that your guest throw it up so it sprinkles down on your like rain - not underarm and straight up into your eyes and mouth.

1.45pm – group shots
Nobody loves a super long group shot session, so we’ll keep it snappy and fun. I recommend a list of about 6-10 key groupings (like family, wedding party, etc.) to get everyone covered without eating into party time and we will plan these beforehand. No-one wants to be waiting around whilst the people we need for photographs are at the bar or in the toilet.
💡 Pro Tip: Assign someone (like your super-organized friend) to help round people up. It’s a lifesaver!

2.15pm – drinks, nibbles & candids
While you mingle with your guests, I’ll be snapping those natural, joy-filled moments: hugs, belly laughs, and Aunt Karen’s questionable hat.

3:00pm – couple portraits
Now it’s your time to shine! We’ll find some dreamy spots around the venue for those romantic, golden-hour-worthy couple shots (even if it’s earlier in the day). Just the two of you, taking a moment together, while I work my magic behind the lens.

3:30pm – chill & speeches
Time to relax and enjoy your meal! I’ll capture shots of the tables, the decor, and the general vibe. Then come the speeches—the laughs, the tears, and maybe a cheeky roast from the best person.
💡 Pro Tip: Let the speeches flow naturally. I’ll be ready to catch the key moments, so no pressure to keep things “perfect.”

6:00pm – golden hour couple shots (Optional)
If the light’s playing ball, this is the perfect time for some soft, romantic golden hour portraits. Trust me, the glow is worth sneaking away for 15 minutes.

7.00pm – cake cutting & evening fun
We’ll get those classic “cutting the cake” shots, and then it’s time to let your hair down! I’ll be floating around, capturing the laughter, dancing, and cheeky moments on the dance floor.

7.30pm – first dance magic
The grand finale! Whether it’s a slow, romantic sway or a full-on choreographed number, I’ll be there to catch it all. I'll be around to capture the first dance or two after this. After this, it’s time for me to say goodbye (though the party’s only just getting started for you).

And that’s a wrap!
By following a timeline like this, you’ll have a smooth, stress-free day and a gallery of stunning photos to relive every moment. Want to chat about your wedding photography or need help planning your wedding timeline? Drop me a message—I’d love to hear all about your plans!
Until then, happy planning!
